"Brilliant beans grown in the traditional wisdom of the past"

“There is nothing palatable about coffee that arrives in my cup through the
destruction of natural habitat, wildlife, or the eradication of
Indigenous cultures, traditions or people.”

~ Eva, Owner

At The Vashon Island Coffee Roasterie our goal is simple… to provide you with legendary coffees of exquisite taste that you can feel good about buying.

We believe that the small act of buying traditionally grown coffee beans can be part of the giant act of positive change in the world. That is why we source beans through The Vashon Island Coffee Foundation created by Jim Stewart, specialty coffee pioneer, to directly assist the families and communities who produce high quality coffee through traditional growing practices.

Recognized as having one of the best palates in the specialty coffee industry, Jim Stewart pointed us in the direction of some of the finest beans in the world, known for their outstanding flavor. We are grateful for his mentorship, and for the opportunity to continue here in the spirit of his foundation that created a pathway for us to begin.

Although new to the “trade ways” of coffee we are not new to the alchemy of flavors. Unspoiled by preconceptions of the coffee world, we are finding our own ways to interpret the flavors, the language and the ethics of coffee that ring true for us. The staff and I have created coffee you will be sure to enjoy.

Our vision of a viable world includes a future that lies in the traditional wisdom of the past - where indigenous people are honored and their stories of birth and life have a voice. It is through their stories that we gain wisdom based in knowledge, experience and understanding to find a sustainable way to feed ourselves as well as others and to heal our families and the planet.

We contribute a portion of our retail sales to organizations and individuals committed to  reclamation and restoration of indigenous cultures and the natural world.
